Innovations Unveiled: Outpatient App’s Breakthroughs at MHS 2024

By April 19, 2024Preview Only

The original Holloman AFB team. We started our journey with Military with these awesome people. How cool running into all of them at MHS 2024.

As the Military Health System (MHS) Conference 2024 in Portland unfolded, the Outpatient App team unveiled a suite of groundbreaking features and prototypes. This pivotal event provided a platform for us to showcase our commitment to revolutionizing military healthcare. Building on our momentum, we reflect on our journey, which included notable appearances at the Health IT Summit 2024 in Bethesda, the 2024 AMSUS Annual Meeting where we hosted back-to-back events in DC, and OPMED 2024 in San Antonio. Let’s delve into the product releases and highlights of our collective efforts and the transformative solutions we presented.

1) Outpatient App + UiPath – Multi System Integration for PHA Coordination

First we demoed how this would work and now have the first implementation going live at an MTF coming very soon.   This next step is part of an expanded PHA Scheduling system that has been in use for nearly two years. Also a major next step is highlighting this new integrated system for other MTF’s, who have been following along with this effort.

2) Expanded Scheduling beyond PHA

We introduced Audiogram Scheduling, a feature designed to streamline the scheduling process for audiograms, ensuring timely assessments and interventions for hearing-related concerns. This enhancement empowers healthcare providers to efficiently manage audiometric evaluations, optimizing patient care and outcomes. Audiogram scheduling is now available along with PHA, Labs and Immunizations.

3) Occupational Health and Employer Readiness Dynamic Checklist

Over the past few months, we’ve quietly been developing a new Occupational Health tracking system. For employees (civilian and service members) with jobs that require OH compliance measures, our system enables a location (i.e. clinic or installation) to dynamically create the check-list required by position and then track the workflow to confirm compliance by each patient employee.

Our collaboration partners include Joint Base San Antonio, including Lackland Reid Clinic and BAMC.

4) Medical Staff Scheduling Management

a. On-call & Shift Management

Outpatient App’s Virtual Health Management (VHM) System is one that has been tailored for the specific needs of the Military Health System (MHS) to help modernize workflows.

A major new Outpatient App highlight is the Provider On-Call Coordination (POCC) module which is fully integrated with the Provider-to-Provider consult and referral system. POCC enables Administrators and Providers to:

  1. Quickly set up on-call shifts for any department
  2. Efficiently assign or change on-call assignments and easily view who’s on call at the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) any time for any Medical Service on any connected device
  3. Get rid of antiquated physical pager systems that cause communication and health care delays
  4. Receive routed consults automatically when on-call

The Provider On-Call Coordination feature saves Health Care Providers hundreds of hours of time each year and enables Patients to receive the correct care more quickly.

This feature was initially developed along with the Virtual Health Consult and Communication system we are co-developing with JBSA-Lackland.

b. Expanded Provider Scheduling Management for Large Health Systems (i.e. VA Health)

This is a major new component to Outpatient App, designed to support VA Health and other large health systems. Outpatient App’s Virtual Health Management (VHM) System is one that has been tailored for the specific needs of the Military Health System (MHS) to help modernize workflows.

Outpatient App is adapting the existing Med Staff Scheduling system to support broad regional coordination of physician and medical staff schedules. It’s designed to support large health systems, like the VA for example, as well as regional Medical Operations and Military Treatment Facilities (MTF’s). The first FedHealth site using this system will be VA Contract Providers.

5) PHA Part A – The PHA End to End Solution

Most recently, we presented a prototype of a working Part A Questionnaire on a phone / mobile device. In response to several comments from MTF and MHS leaders, who saw the demo of (1) system integration for PHA coordination.

Recognizing the pressing need to streamline the Periodic Health Assessment (PHA) process, we presented a working demo of PHA Part A on mobile devices. This prototype represented a crucial step towards our vision of a full end-to-end solution, empowering patients and healthcare providers alike with unprecedented accessibility and efficiency.

Conclusion

As we reflect on our transformative journey at the conferences this year, the Outpatient App team remains steadfast in our commitment to innovation and excellence. Through our latest product releases and prototypes, we strive to empower healthcare professionals with the tools they need to deliver exceptional care in an ever-evolving landscape. Join us as we continue to redefine the future of healthcare, one breakthrough at a time.
