Attending the 2023 AMSUS Annual Meeting in DC

Had the pleasure of reconnecting with Brig Gen Katherine Simonson, Assistant Director for Support/Chief Nursing Officer for The Defense Health Agency. We discussed how automating simple scheduling tasks like PHA can have a massive impact on Medical operating efficiency.

Our team just recently attended the AMSUS Annual Meeting outside Washington, DC. This conference is one of the largest gatherings of government healthcare leaders, bringing together professionals from across all segments to discuss goals, trends, and innovations. The theme this year was Collaboration, which was perfect and fortuitous. The focus and discussions centered around collaboration across Agencies (i.e. Air Force, Army, Navy, Defense Health Agency, etc), Federal Government, and industry.  Learning how to work between them, and who oversees what processes, is important for everyone involved.  Even for the highest level leaders, including these Generals pictured here, it’s not trivial.

Day 1 at AMSUS, had the pleasure of chatting with LT General Telita Crosland, new Director of Defense Health Agency. Also cool, meeting Captain Bullock, who works with Gen Crosland. AMSUS – The Society of Federal Health Professionals

At the conference, we showcased the Outpatient App platform, which is revolutionizing military health coordination and logistics by enabling easy collaboration. It’s a digital health workflow automation platform to schedule, track, notify and report on any type of medical task or healthcare process.

We also hosted the AMSUS Networking Happy Hour on Tuesday evening, which was a great success and loads of fun. Several of the same leaders joined us, plus teams from Oracle Cerner, Leidos, all branches including Navy Health, Reserves, and even the Canadian Military Health system. It’s really interesting learning from a cross section of like-minded folks how similar their challenges really are.

Nice running into Troy Jabez Brown, MS, CSM at AMSUS – The Society of Federal Health Professionals.  He’s now part of Defense Health Agency Innovation and chatting about digital health collaboration, Great guy too!

During the week, the Outpatient Team met with leaders and professionals across the spectrum of Government health. Mostly talking about their experiences and challenges with military health processes. Innovation is a hot button for everyone, but making it system-wide is fraught with roadblocks. Therefore, much of the conversations covered health-tech and patient care, along with security and policy changes to enable implementation more easily.

At events like these, we gain valuable insight into navigating this enormous industry along with their priorities, which influence the value of Outpatient App in their operating environment.

So cool running into Col. Gwendolyn Foster at AMSUS – The Society of Federal Health Professionals Annual Meeting. We told her about the progress with Travis Air Force Base and she gave Peter Yewell a big hug! 😎 She brought us in there, so pretty awesome to share a success .. and she’s now working in The Pentagon for the US Surgeon General. Great meeting Eric Speight OTRL CHT OTD with her too.

By collaborating across DoD and DHA, we leverage the expertise of military health leadership. However, at the same time we’re small and nimble enough to quickly get around and iterate both on product and process. We help them by sharing what we learn, sometimes quicker than enterprise informs their own communities. At events like AMSUS, we get first hand feedback from the senior leadership on how we’re doing.

Outpatient App provides a range of health tracking services, through digital automation technology, to drastically improve the efficiencies of the bases we serve. By streamlining and modernizing these processes, military personnel receive much better care and the medical professionals are much more efficient providing that care. Win Win Win!
