Outpatient App: What’s New and What’s Coming

By September 11, 2020New Features

The global COVID-19 pandemic has been a sea change for everyone. Our fantastic community of customers, caregivers, employees, friends and families are all facing new challenges and major disruptions to how we’ve traditionally lived, worked, and thrived.

A couple of things haven’t changed for us at Outpatient. One, our team continues to listen to feedback and data from how our customers use the Outpatient app to collaborate on caregiving. And two, we continue to rapidly build features and enhancements that help our community thrive.

We are immensely grateful to our community for what they do and for showing us what we can build to help them do it better together.

We are releasing our 31st update to the Outpatient app today, less than 2 years after our launch. This is our last “small” app update before we release 1.1.0. That’s a major milestone for us as a team! Thank you to all of my colleagues for their tireless creativity and work.

What’s New

Our mantra for the Outpatient product experience is “simple, modern, easy”. We focus on automating workflow, improving collaboration and productivity, and keeping our interfaces simple. Additionally, we’ve made some of our most powerful features (checklist automation) available to all consumers and families.

Here are some of the highlights from what we’ve built into the Outpatient App in the past couple months:

Automating Workflow

  • In response to COVID-19, we developed a Virus Tracking and communication module (“checklist”).
  • We added a Care Management and Virus Tracking automated workflows (daily hygiene and COVID-19 monitoring activities) to help our customers quickly and easily monitor and share progress within the Tribe.
  • We’ve included an automated hydration tracker to help patients stay hydrated.
  • We enabled one-tap editing of checklists to update the frequency and timing of auto-scheduled events.

Collaboration & Telehealth

  • We’ve built HIPAA-compliant Video Recording and Playback into our Messaging module so that tribes (Quick reminder, Tribe = your invited group of supporters) can more vibrantly communicate messages of support and progress, as well as securely engage in telehealth with their care teams.
  • Many of our users write/speak natively in Spanish or Tagalog, so we now translate our full application into those languages.

Simpler Interface

  • We reorganized our Home Screen for easier access to Patient Information, which had previously been difficult to find.

Expanding Access

  • Making consumer subscriptions available-for-purchase for automated professional features such as Care Management, Lifestyle Activities Calendar, Food & Hydration Tracking, Virus Tracking and Vitals Measurements.

What’s Next

As we look ahead to the next couple months, we’re building automated tools for new use cases, particularly to help hospitals and military hospitals with collaboration and productivity. Here’s some of what’s coming:

Supporting new use cases

  • Designing and developing automated workflows to enable a modern medical deployment readiness process for Military Bases and Hospitals.
  • Building out COVID-19 contact tracing features inside the Outpatient App.

Expanding access

  • Designing and developing a desktop web experience so that people can more easily access power features of Outpatient when they’re not on the go.

We look forward to your feedback on what’s working and not working for you in the Outpatient App, as well as what you’d like to have in the App that would make your life better.

Shake your phone to send us a message or email [email protected] – we’d be happy to hear from you!
